Re: Basics questions

Hi Scott,

If the CyTOF has a maximum focus of 159-169, does that apply for both CyTOFv1 and CyTOFv2?

In other words, the expanded mass window of a CyTOFv2 (78-212 amu, according to your talk at CYTO 2013) would still peak at 159-169 like a CyTOF v1, even though (relative to a CyTOFv1) the mass window got extended slightly more to the Low mass end than the High mass end?

Thanks
Mike

Re: Basics questions

Hi Mike,

Did you get any feedback to your question regarding the difference between CyTOF1 and 2 ?

Thank you,

Hugo

Re: Basics questions

Hi Hugo,

No, I never got an official reply from DVS/Fluidigm regarding the 159-169 focus on CyTOFv1 vs CyTOFv2.

Hopefully the new DVS commentator will make an official post about it.

Thanks for the followup,
Mike

Re: Basics questions

The CyTOF 2 and CyTOF both are set up to optimize the transmission of ions in the range 159-169 amu.
For more scientific details: For ions of similar ionization efficiency, the response (on a per atom basis, that is after correction for atomic weight) is principally determined by the transmission efficiency of the ion optics. The focusing of ions is mass dependent. And, a priori, the ion optics can be adjusted to favor certain mass ranges over others. The CyTOF 2 and CyTOF both are set up to optimize the transmission of ions in the range 159-169 amu.
