CyTOF/IMC/MIBI - journals, publishing, data release
Hi all,
Since we recently hit the 4000 mark on CyTOF/IMC/MIBI papers, I've been doing some analysis of the trends.
Today's topics:
1. Where are people publishing?
According to my tally, CyTOF/IMC/MIBI papers have been published in 671 journals (counting a few preprint servers).
However, only 77 journals have published 10+ CyTOF/IMC/MIBI papers (totalling 2451/4053 papers; 60%). Frontiers in Immunology is #1, with 214 papers.
2. Which journals are better than others about data release?
Of those 77 journals publishing 10+ papers, only 6 have >50% new-data release. Technically, Genome Biol is #1. However, it's only had 2 new datasets generated (and 10 cases of reuse), Nat Protoc has a similar issue, so I'd probably give the lead to Cytometry A, with 69% release rate (68/95).
**** 32 journals have a release rate under 10% release rate. I would like to point out the 9 clinical journals at the bottom of the list, with 0% release rate.
This is terrible. And, it's not just an issue of general data release, as RNAseq/SeqData has a much higher release rate. For example, Cancer Res has a 93% release rate for SeqData, compared to a 2.5% release rate for CyTOF data. And JCI Insight has a SeqData release rate of 68% but a CyTOF release rate of 9.1%.
