Freezing cells after processing with Protein Sabilizer

Hi all,

We have banked a lot of peripheral blood samples with protein stabilizer from Smart Tubes. Our freezer capacity is now getting critical, and we would free up a lot (!) of space of the samples were to be processed with the thaw/lyse protocol and then frozen again. I wonder if anyone have done any testing on what buffer is optimal to use when freezing the cells again after?

Hi Stein-Erik,

I'm not sure I quite understand what you're wanting to do: wouldn't you be replacing an unlysed sample tube with the same size lysed tube? Or are your samples in some large-volume tubes like 15mL conicals or actual SmartTube tubes, that take up more space than 1-2mL cryovials?

Regardless: I have never tried lysing and then re-freezing, so I can't give feedback one way or the other.
