boiling oil

Dear All,

I have the cytof 1, and earlier this week the roughing pump was replaced. This is the upper pump that remains on when the torch is not lit. I noticed that the new one is running really hot. The engineer assured me that this is normal. Currently the oil is boiling. I've attached a photo. Has anyone seen this? Should I turn it off before there is a meltdown. I'm waiting for Fluidigm to respond as well.

Re: boiling oil

Hi Ian,

My CyTOF1's backing pump also has this foaming (attached a picture). Mine has also been replaced in the last 6months.

However, even with the original one, I recall there being bubbles and at least a trace of foam.

Re: boiling oil

Thanks, Mike for the reply. I know that my old one was cool to the touch and did not have any foam at the top. It developed a leak and was replaced. This one is uncomfortably hot to the touch. It's strange that the new ones run so hot.

Ian
