A position is vacant at Amsterdam UMC for a research technician, in the Department of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology (MCBI, https://www.vumc.nl/research/overzicht/molecular-cell-biology-immunology-research.htm). The department shares high-end microscopy and cytometry equipment via an integrated core facility (MCCF). Amongst the instrumentation available for users are several spectral analyzers, advanced sorters, a mass cytometer equipped for analysis of cells in suspension (Helios) and tissue (Hyperion), a super resolution (STED) confocal microscope, a light sheet microscope, a 2-photon microscope, and an advanced multiplexed slide-scanning platform (Vectra Polaris). Both the mass cytometry (Helios & Hyperion) and the multiplexed slide-scanning platform (Vectra Polaris) are key assets for the Immunotherapy Center of the Cancer Center Amsterdam.

Our goal with this instrumentation is to enable multiparameter blood and tissue analysis for the evaluation and in-depth characterization of the tumor microenvironment and immune infiltrates from small biopsies of tumor tissues and their correlate with blood.

The goal of the research technician is to provide user support to our researchers performing high parametric tissue and blood analysis using our mass cytometry (Helios/Hyperion) and multiplexed microscopy (Vectra Polaris) systems.

User support involves providing advice in panel optimization and sample preparation, giving practical training to researchers for instrument usage, helping with instrument troubleshooting and coordinating maintenance, and performing standard daily maintenance and calibration of the instruments. In addition, you will keep up to date in new developments in the field, maintain contacts with suppliers and your network, and participate in discussions within MCCF team.

Requirements

Experience with mass cytometry is a must.
You are highly independent and have ample knowledge in practical laboratory work, handling complex equipment, interacting with the technical team of instrument suppliers, providing service to other researchers, and providing technical reporting in written or presentation form.
Communication skills are important, as you are expected to participate in user trainings, contribute to user meetings, and help with instrument troubleshooting.
You have experience in the field of high parametric analysis in cytometry and/or microscopy.
You are able to implement innovations in the field well and quickly.

What we offer
An initial contract for 12 months that can be extended (after evaluation).
Additional benefits include an 8.3% end-of-year bonus and 8.0% holiday pay.
Free and unlimited access to our online learning environment GoodHabitz.
Pension is accrued at the ABP. VUmc contributes a large part of the premium (70%).
In addition to excellent accessibility by public transport (partial reimbursement) we have a good bicycle scheme.
An active personnel association and the Young Amsterdam UMC association, both of which organise fun (sports) activities and events.
