Assay Development Scientist Position - Intersect Diagnostics

Assay Development Scientist – Intersect Diagnostics

Intersect Diagnostics is a startup life science contract research and development services firm enabling development of breakthrough precision therapeutics by developing and deploying proprietary assays using the new high-parameter spatial biology platforms and sophisticated data analytics. By early adoption and exclusive focus on these disruptive technologies in a CAP-accredited and CLIA-certified laboratory, Intersect will build its brand around its scientific, technical, and operational expertise in this emerging space.

Intersect Diagnostics is seeking a motivated and talented Assay Development Scientist with a background in cellular and molecular biology who will lead the company’s efforts to design, optimize, and validate ultra-high plex proteomic and genomic assays using Imaging Mass Cytometry (CyTOF) and related platforms. These assays form the foundation of the deep biological insight that Intersect will deliver to biotechnology and biopharma companies in support of precision drug development. The successful candidate will be well-suited to assuming responsibility and accountability in an entrepreneurial, agile environment and will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

The successful candidate is expected to have experience in assay development and deployment in academia or the life science industry. Experience engaging in quality assurance and lab management activities such as implementation of SOPs and drafting of assay validation reports is strongly desired. Continuous support and training will be provided as needed.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Craft the experimental design and validation plans for antibody and nucleic acid-based, highly multiplexed tissue and liquid/suspension assays incorporating robust controls across various specimen types

Lead the technical aspects of optimization and validation of new assays using complex instrumentation (Imaging Mass Cytometry; eventually to include other platforms)

Source reagents and assay control materials from vendors

Diligently apply Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in performing all experimental work, both in development and production phases.

Take detailed experimental notes, gather high-quality data, and openly communicate on challenges and lessons learned

Develop and draft assay validation reports and SOP’s for assay deployment and other laboratory activities

Help with process improvements across the lab by thinking critically about the execution of all experiments and leveraging the knowledge of subject matter experts

REQUIREMENTS:

Ph.D. in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related field with 2+ years of laboratory experience in the life sciences OR

B.S./M.S. degree in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related field with 4+ years of laboratory experience in the life sciences.

Hands-on experience with molecular and cell biology assays and associated instrumentation including DNA and RNA extraction from FFPE tissues; qPCR; sequencing; and ELISAs, Western blotting, flow cytometry, and other immunoassays.

Strongly desired - hands-on experience with one or more of: immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in-situ hybridization, CyTOF, ICP-MS, or LC-MS.

Proven track record of running successful experiments, preparing data for review, and giving effective scientific presentations.

Ability to perform basic data analysis and be critical of results obtained during experimentation. Experience with data analysis programs such as CytoBank, FloSOM, HistoCAT, etc. is preferred.

Clear communications skills and ability to work with team members in the same and adjacent disciplines.

A self-motivated individual that is detail-oriented and can function both independently as well as part of a core team is required.
