Instrument maintenance without service contract

Hi all,

Our Helios is at the end of our service contract and here in Aus the renewal cost for a service contract does not come cheap (or even affordable) :x . We are currently weighing our options and were wondering if anyone had any advice or experience on instrument maintenance without a service contract? Is it manageable?

Any input on this will be much appreciated!

Thanks, Caryn

Re: Instrument maintenance without service contract

Hi Caryn,

I know that in the US at least, Fluidigm has a few tiers of service contracts. Is that an option for you, or is the Basic tier still too pricy?

All include parts, labor, and travel; software updates; phone and email support. They mainly differ in Tier of onsite response, preventative maintenance visits, remote diagnostics, whether detectors are covered, consumables kits (nebulizer, glassware, silica tubing mainly), and some onsite applications training.

Honestly, I don't know the price differential between the tiers, but of course that's different too!

Assuming that your lab is established (ie, you know how to fix the basic problems like clogs, replace parts like cones and silica tubing, you have dedicated people in charge of the instrument to catch a problem early, etc), then most of the costs would be consumables. Based on the above, the main costs to your lab would be Detectors, Silica Lines, Nebulizers and other glassware.

Also, no PM visits, no Remote login diagnostics, and lower priority in the queue for phone/email support and for Onsite responses.
